Reading in the Rock gives free books for Chicot student's home libraries! Every Chicot student has gotten to choose 5 free books to keep for summer reading. If your child was absent and hasn’t received their books, just come to the front office and we will get you a goodie bag of books!
The last day of school is quickly approaching, and summer is almost here! Have you picked up your child's medication from the nurse? It must be picked up by the end of the last day of School, Thursday, May 22nd.

Chicot Career Day was a success! The children gained career awareness from several presenters. This day was full of learning. The students were introduced to a wide range of career options they may not have considered or even knew about.
📚 Literacy in Action! The Rotary Club of Little Rock Afterhours continues to champion reading through its ongoing partnership with LRSD. Now in its third year, the program challenged students to read 20 minutes each day—and they rose to the occasion! 👏 Congratulations to our top three schools for total minutes read. 🥇 Mabelvale Elementary – 67,835 minutes 🥈 Chicot Elementary and Early Childhood Center – 64,515 minutes 🥉 Otter Creek Elementary School – 59,398 minutes. Each school received funds to grow its library collections. Thank you, Rotary Afterhours, for your continued support of literacy in our schools!

Fun with friends and Field Day Games make for a day to remember! Our Cheetah Scholars enjoyed Field Day classics such as Tug of War, Sponge Relay, Three-Legged Race, Sack Race, and Basketball Knockout, as well as, bubbles, hula hoops, art activities, face painting, and a special visit from the LR Fire Department. Special thanks to our Field Day Committee, families, volunteers, and Little Rock Christian for making this day a success!
We are set-up and ready for you! Pizza has also arrived! We are only missing you!
So many wonderful memories with this 5th grade group! With just a few elementary traditions left for the year, next Friday, May 16th, is their last event-Completion Ceremony. We are confident in this group of scholars and invite you to celebrate with us!
What a great Leadership Day! It was wonderful to see our scholars showcase their leadership talents for so many families. Our Cheetahs led the ENTIRE 2.5 hour event which included a welcome wagon, Opening Ceremony, musical and cheer performances, school tours, Student Lighthouse Meeting, reviewing Wildly Important Goals (WIGs), sharing Student Leadership Notebooks, conducting classroom leadership activities, Closing Ceremony and explained how our school helps to develop leadership principles in each and every child. Thank you so much for supporting our school and our scholars.
Tonight we will have Family Leadership Night from 5-7. Hope to see you there!
More great news! Our Chicot Quiz Bowl Teams did a fabulous job representing our school in the LRSD Quiz Bowl Tournament! We had two teams compete. Please join us in congratulating the following scholars for their 2nd and 4th place finishes!

Just some of the fun celebrating our 2025 Chicot Teacher of the Year, Mr. Ivan Pereira! From hugs and high fives with scholars, photos at our Chicot "Wall of Fame," and finally recognition at the LRSD Crystal Awards, we were all smiles with this special educator! We are so lucky to have you at Chicot and in our LRSD ESOL Department. Way to go!
Tonight, Chicot staff will join our LRSD colleagues at the LRSD Teacher of the Year Banquet. As part of the festivities, our 2025 Chicot Teacher of the Year, Mr. Ivan Pereira, will be recognized! Mr. Pereira serves as our English Language Development Specialist and works with scholars from kindergarten through 5th grade. In addition to his exceptional work with our scholars, Mr. Pereira also serves as Chair of our Teach Students to Lead Action Team, consistently supports our school-wide events, and serves as a sponsor for a number of our school service projects. Mr. Pereira exemplifies our Leader in Me 7 Habits and consistently uses Habit 6-Synergize to make sure our school and scholars receive the very best! Mr. Pereira you are loved by our school community and we are so proud to have you represent our school as Teacher of the Year!

This week is a BIG ONE! To celebrate this year's leadership efforts, we kick-off the week with Chicot Spirit Days! On Wednesday, we have our Annual Leadership Day. On Thursday, we have a very special Tea Party for our 3 year old scholars. Thursday evening is our school-wide Family Leadership Night. Friday is K-5 Field Day! AND last, but certainly not least....this entire week is Teacher Appreciation Week!
